BILLY STRITCH CY COLEMAN REVISITED
Billy Stritch returns to the Purple Room for a new show spotlighting the music of legendary tunesmith Cy Coleman. Hell be joined this time by a swinging jazz trio – all the better to perfectly celebrate one of Broadway and pop musics jazziest composers. The show will include Cys biggest pop hits (The Best Is Yet To Come, Witchcraft), songs from his Broadway shows (Sweet Charity, City Of Angels) and many undiscovered and unknown gems.
Cy Coleman was the composer of a dozen Broadway scores and a multitude of stand-alone pop songs in addition to being a world-class jazz pianist. It was Billys honor to meet Cy in 1991 and the two formed a friendship built on their mutual love of jazz and showbiz. Billy almost always includes one or two of Cys compositions in his shows and is excited to be creating an evening of this great material for the very discerning Palm Springs audience!
Pianist-singer Billy Stritch has been a presence on the New York and national nightclub scene for more years than he cares to count but is perhaps best known for his 25 year collaboration as musical director and pianist for Liza Minnelli. He has also toured with Tony Bennett, Linda Eder, Marilyn Maye, Linda Lavin and many other top singers. His composition Does He Love You won the Grammy award and was recently recorded by Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. Billy has recorded numerous solo albums and the most recent release Billys Place (Club44 Records) is available on all the streaming platforms and at his website billystritch.com
